Edina Real Estate: A Neighborhood Break Down

A CITY FULL OF RICH HISTORY

Back in the 1860’s, Edina was a small milling and farming community of immigrant families. Most of these families immigrated from Ireland as a result of the potato famine. They claimed land in the southwest section of what was then known as Richfield Township. Soon after, settlers from New England and Germany began to arrive. These immigrants took claim over land near Minnehaha Creek. In 1888, the residents of the township gathered and came to a consensus to found a new village. They separated themselves from Richfield Township, and thus established the transition.

Today, Edina is one of the most well-known cities outside of Minneapolis. Many of the street names in Edina are named after these families. These include, Grimes Avenue, Gleason Road, Cooper Avenue, Hansen Road, and Wyman Avenues.
